Electricity Rates End of Week Commentary

Equity markets were slightly stronger today as the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 66.22 to 13,212.04. U.S. treasuries were down; Gold closed up $17.00 to $1,671.90; and the dollar was down.

WTI crude closed up $0.24 to $103.02 and Brent crude settled up $0.49 to $122.88.

Natural gas closed down $0.023 to another 10-year low settle price of $2.126.

Day-ahead physical gas at Henry Hub traded below $2.00 this morning, joining several other physical delivery points that have been trading sub-$2.00 for a few days now.

This morning, ERCOT trades for this weekend and Monday’s peak hours went through in the low $30’s while off peak hours traded in the mid teens. Peak load for this weekend is expected to be about 42,000 MW and Monday is expected to be about 41,000 MW. High temperatures throughout most of ERCOT are forecast to be in the mid to high 80’s this weekend before cooling off into the 70’s and low 80’s early next week. Forward heat rates were weak today as the summers were all down about 100 ticks.
